Field Marshals is basically a large mod component to Fall from Heaven 2.
When I first conceived this I called it Commanding Officers. This was back in early 2008. And on my birthday, April 5th of 2008, I guess I was happy and posted about it @ CivFanatics. Now, I never got to release the mod, but I’ve recently restarted the work on it and I got a working copy running for the latest stable version of Fall from Heaven 2.
Field Marshals is a new layer of Leaders, who instead of controlling your nation, command your armies.
Basically, think of them as leaders that don’t deal with other leaders, who give your Main leader (mostly military) Traits, and which can be switched from time to time.
Traits
The traits the Field Marshals have vary. But they each have one defining trait which they start with at level 1, and three additional traits they can gain as they level up. Now, each trait have 3 levels which you can promote as the Field Marshal gains Strategic Experience. Generally the 4th Trait is their Ultimate Trait/Ability and will require strategic level 4 to promote to the 1st level.
Some of the Field Marshals will have a more direct approach, having more Abilities than Traits. By Traits I mean similar to the regular traits your Leaders have, with generally passive bonuses. And by Abilities I mean a spell or skill which they can use. But no matter the division between Abilities and Traits, all Field Marshals will improve their armies as a whole as they gain Tactical Experience.
Tactical Experience
There are 7 types of Tactical Experience:
- Shock Tactics
- Formation Tactics
- Cover Tactics
- Fortification Tactics
- Siege Tactics
- Harassment Tactics
- Guerrilla Tactics
They can each level up 4 times, and give increasing bonuses to your army.
Currently they boost the Drill promotions, but that is likely to change. And I am not going to go into any further details here as the design is not finalized.

Hi, I found your blog on the Arras Wordpress Theme forum. I was wondering if Field Marshals has been released? I found your old mods over at CivFanatics but they are the old ones apparently.
It’s going to be released later this year. Either to Fall from Heaven 2 and Rise from Erebus or only for Rise from Erebus. We’ll see.
