Defense Grid: the Awakening – Guide

This will become a series of walkthroughs for all missions of the game. These are all for the Story Mode and I’ve written the guides not only to show you how to complete the missions but also to try and maximize your score.

Mission 1 is basically just a tutorial, you don’t even get interest so all you need is to build two towers and then fast forward and you’ll get the maximum amount of points possible.

Mission 2: Assessing the Threat

First some general tips:

  • Points rewarded for a mission is based on how many cores and how many resources you have at the end of the level.
  • You should never place towers right away. Try to time the placement of a tower so that you get as much interest as possible. The more resources you have in the bank, the more interest you get over time.
  • You can fast forward at any time by holding [F], or [LB] or [RB] with the Xbox Controller.
  • You can revert back to a quick-save with [Backspace], or the [Back] button on the Xbox Controller. You should do this quite a lot when you try to maximize score. Experiment to push the limits.

This is not the perfect way to play this map, but it can give you enough of a score to get into the top 100 rankings. I got to the 56th place using this build with a score of 50070. Remember your score can vary depending on your timing, it’s all about getting as much interest as possible. Not losing a single core is a must to get a high score.

The top 5 scorers on this map have done it by building only 9 towers. If you got any tips on how to improve on this build to get a better score you are welcome to post a comment!
